The golden limestone cliffs that make up the coastline around Carvoeiro and its neighbouring beaches really are a gem. Eroded by wind, rain and seawater, they form an intricate landscape of natural grottoes, arches, crevices and outcrops that are a beauty to explore. The most famous and dazzling example in the Algarve is Algar Seco, situated some 550 metres (0.3 miles) east of Carvoeiro, where visitors can admire a network of rock pools, caves, arches and holes that have been naturally carved out of the rocks. Carvoeiro’s nightlife livens up considerably during the summer months when the bars and pubs stay open well into the night. There are many restaurants to choose from, offering international or typical Portuguese cuisine. As this is an important wine producing region, why not stop and taste a local fish speciality, accompanied by a smooth and fragrant Lagoa red?

Planning a trip to Algarve and enjoying a hassle free holiday that you’ll never forget.

Overlooking the thunderous Atlantic at Europe’s southwestern most tip, the Algarve is Portugal for most holidaymakers. With the promise of 300 days of sun each year, and mile upon mile of beaches, the Algarve is a seasoned people-pleaser. In summer it attracts budget-breakers to its packed bays and upbeat resorts like Carvoeiro, Lagos and Portmao. But even in winter the weather can be warm enough to swim, sunbathe, play golf and eat outdoors.

What really surprises first-timers, though, is the rest: the green, mountainous interior laced with hiking trails; the remote bays and hissing surf of the wild west coast; the cultural riches of Faro’s medieval Old Town and Silves’ Moorish castle. Culture and coast, action and relaxation, bacon butties and Michelin-starred brasseries – the Algarve really has got it all.
