Carvoeiro has its origins as a small fishing village and is tucked away between high cliffs and a lovely sandy beach. Modern day Carvoeiro has a bustling, friendly atmosphere by day and night with a selection of fine restaurants, shops and lively nightlife.

The beach, Praia do Carvoeiro, is particularly picturesque. Sheltered by a semi-circle of sheer cliffs, the calm waters and soft sands are particularly popular with families. The central square of the town, located just behind the beach, has an array of cafes and terrace bars that offer beautiful views of the bay.Carcoeiro is well-supplied with entertainments. From the water-sports and boat trips on offer at the beach to the waterparks, the Zoomarine Sealife Park to the Krazy World park, there is something for everyone. Day trips to the surrounding area are also popular. There are some beautiful beaches nearby, and excursions to Silves, a Moorish town with a beautiful castle and riverside walks.
